"I felt the event was very well packaged. Registration was smooth and it was used very well to prevent overcrowding at the venue. A good range of speakers from different fields were present, who were all inspiring. I also love the fact that detailed directions to the venue was provided; it was absolutely impossible to miss. The venue itself was conducive, the team welcomed me with big smiles, and the snacks was so good. It was held on a Saturday when I had a lot of work to do and could have gone into the office, but I decided to attend TEDxGbagada instead. I did not regret it for one second. The speakers left me inspired, and left me thinking deeply. I hope the next one is bigger and better!"

Meet the TEDxGbagada 2016 Speakers and Performers

What is TED?

TED is a non-profit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful
talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics —from science to business to global issues —in more than 100 languages.

What is TEDx?

TEDx is an international community that organizes TED-style events anywhere and
everywhere, celebrating locally-driven ideas and elevating them to a global stage. TEDx events are produced independently of TED conferences, each event curates speakers on their own, but based on TED’s format and rules.

TEDxGbagada is an annual TEDx conference that aspires to bring together Nigeria’s
best scientists, entrepreneurs, professionals, innovators and reformers to share ideas
that would spark deep dis- cussions and birth new ideas that will change our society.
We have one goal in mind –the audience.
Within this enabling environment, our audience inevitably reshape their boundaries of
ability and reality. This will spark audacious ideas for our society, ideas that challenge
our present reality and upend the status quo.

TEDxGbagada 2015

In 2015, we had the premiere TEDxGbagada event with a theme: “Let there be Light!” The event was a huge success with an approval rating 85%.

We had speakers like Timi Dakolo who spoke about the role of education in maximizing your opportunities in life. We also had Mark Essien, a Nigerian Tech-startup titan who is the founder of the revolutionary platform for hotels called hotels.ng. He spoke on a vision on how Africa can lead the Technology industry globally.

Speakers like Bovi, a leader in the entertainment industry and a ground-breaking entrepreneur who spoke about the dangers of social media addiction and the ways we can fight it.

TEDxKids @ Gbagada 2016

We had one of the pioneer TEDx kids event in Nigeria in July, 2016 named TEDxKids@ Gbagada which was aimed at kids between the ages of 8 and 18 years old. The event was themed: InterConnected. We had speakers like Zuriel Oduwole, a 13 year old lm-maker who has interviewed over 19 presidents and Heads of State. She is also the youngest person till date to be featured on Forbes. She spoke to the kids in the audience about how global impact has no age boundary, that they too can make a global impact by starting with their communities. We also had Tejiri Emore, a 14-year old saxophonist who has performed in over 20 shows and Kofo Jolaosowho is the head of her student council at the age of 14.

We also had activities during the events to stimulate the creativity of the kids in the spheres of Technology, Entertainment and Design. We and the kids built a Lego House from which all of the electrical ttings were controlled using a smartphone. We also created a wedding dress out of paper and created a short video where the kids talked about what TEDx means to them.
